Huntingdon Community

About the Region

Huntingdon County is nestled in central Pennsylvania.  This rural region is marked  by  ridges and valleys, agriculture and forestry and small towns with a genuine hometown touch. The county seat is the borough of Huntingdon, located on the banks of the Juniata River and at the northern  end of Lake Raystown, Pennsylvania’s largest inland man-made lake. Huntingdon  is also home to Juniata College, a small private liberal  arts school and the amenities  of a population center, including hotels, shopping and restaurants, parks and recreation opportunities. The Huntingdon County Arts Council is represented in The Art Space on 4th Street in the heart of historic downtown Huntingdon.

Huntingdon County is fairly large and  diverse. Its southern area still shows the influences of  former coal mining and iron  furnace activities, whereas the northern end is wooded and had a history  based in the timber industry.

Huntingdon County offers many recreational opportunities, including the arts at the numerous state parks: Greenwood Furnace State Park has an active cultural offering and once a year becomes the folk music gathering place in central Pennsylvania; Trough Creek and  Whipple Dam State Parks offer natural beauty, waiting to be captured  in any medium. And Raystown Lake Amphitheater offer free summer programs and performances.

The Huntingdon County Arts Council is a true community partner. Our collaborations and artistic perspective have focused on farm safety, the history of radiology and recycling. We are active in planning events for the Huntingdon County Fair every year, and partner with all county school districts and all communities within the county.
